Dear Friends,

We praise the Lord for His faithfulness. Summer camp has finally arrived. It seems as if we had been preparing for it for ever, and now it is finally here. In our mission statement it says that we are “A Christ-centered ministry where evangelism and
discipleship are modeled through structured teaching, training and life experience ….” This truly is our goal. All this past year we have been teaching, training, and mentoring the apprentices. Our goal for them is to become the godly men and women that God has intended them to become. It’s been exciting to see the change in them through out the year. For some, they have grown leaps and bounds, for others it has been a slow steady climb. Many have had to struggle through numerous battles. “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” (Eph 6:12) One of our apprentices kept saying, “I just don’t feel like I am growing,” but every time she would go home on break, her family and church family kept saying how much change and growth they have seen in her.

Now that summer is here, it is the apprentices turn to pass on what they have learned to others. One of our apprentices, Courtney, is running the vaulting program. She has 7 summer staff under her. Her role this summer is to lead and mentor them to grow in their walk with the Lord, and help them in turn mentor the ranchers that come this summer. Another one of our apprentices, Sarah, is working in the kitchen this summer. Due to resident staff change in the kitchen, Sarah had the opportunity to run the entire kitchen for a couple days all by herself. At one point she was feeding up to 200 people and managing several girls underneath her. This summer, she has the opportunity to disciple 8 – 10 teenage girls each week. Most of the apprentices this summer are in key leadership roles, putting into practice what they have learned throughout the past year. Several will have the opportunity to lead small group Bible studies, and speak in chapel. The backbone of summer camp is still our summer staff.

At the beginning of staff training I remember thinking, some of them look so inexperienced, how are they ever going to make it through the summer. The main topic during staff training was on love, how to look past yourself and love others with the love of Christ. At the end of staff training, the summer-staff were asked to share their goals for the summer. Many shared their desire to grow in their relationship with the Lord, and their desire to reach out to the kids that come this summer. A few confessed that they had originally come because of the horses, or because their friends were here, but now they were excited to see what God was going to do through them in the lives of the Ranchers. One girl’s testimony really touched my heart. She has been volunteering in the horse department for the past several years. In the past she had been characterized by bitterness and self centeredness. When she left last summer, she was still struggling with selfish. When asked if I wanted to hire her for the vaulting program this summer, I said no. Then someone said, that she had been keeping in touch with several of the apprentices and summer staff from last year, and they had seen a lot of growth in her through their correspondence. So we did hire her. I was really pleased to see the maturity she came back with. When asked what her goal was this summer. She very humbling said, “I know I don’t have as much contact with the ranchers as the counselors do, but more than anything, I really would like to be able to play a part in leading someone to the Lord.” Praise the Lord, God is in the business of changing people, and this is
why we are involved in discipleship ministry We really want to thank all of you who have faithfully prayed for us and supported us over the years. God has used your gifts and prayers in a mighty way. Thank you so much.
